A pure-vegetarian South Indian restaurant — dosa, idli and filter coffee - where you're greeted like family.

The Room

The Story
Vanakam means welcome. Filter coffee on a single rock, thatte idlis arriving in stacks and benne dosa the way it should be — all of it strictly vegetarian.
La Vanakam opened in August 2025 — a pure-vegetarian South Indian restaurant, savouring the day the desi way. Thatte idli with ghee and podi, benne and Mysore dosa, appam with stew, Kerala curd rice and gunpowder potatoes, all built on, house-ground podis and fresh-pressed filter coffee. There's a chaat counter for the in-between hours and a no-onion-no-garlic kitchen for those who keep it. The look nods to the banana leaf without the kitsch: clean lines and deep greens.
Signatures

Karnataka-style. Ghee-rich, golden-crisp at the edges, soft in the middle — served with chutney and sambar.

Plate-sized idli, dusted with house gunpowder and a hot ghee tempering. Served with coconut chutney and sambar.

Crisp dosa brushed with our slow chilli oil, finished with grated cheese. Soft heat, generous melt.

Soft pao, spiced vada, dry garlic chutney and a fried green chilli — the original street sandwich.
